Tareq Abboushi
Bio
A composer, instrumentalist and music teacher, Tareq Abboushi embarks on research, experimentation, active imagination and musical exploration as part of his compositional process.
He began at an early age, learning to play the piano and classical music as a start and eventually earning a degree in jazz piano performance from William Paterson University. Seeking to connect with Arabic music, Tareq picked up the buzuq and studied with Khalid Jubran, Simon Shaheen, Bassam Saba, Jihad Racy, and George Ziadeh, with the buzuq becoming his main performance instrument.
During his time in New York, he joined several bands and formed Shusmo, releasing two albums, One and Mumtastic, containing his compositions that blend Arabic, jazz, Latin, rock and funk music. Tareq went on to learn about electronic music production, which became an important tool in his music creation process today.
Tareq taught buzuq, piano, music theory, maqams, choir and ensemble during his time at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in Palestine, where he also developed a unique music program for children.
He looks forward to shifting his focus toward composition and performance for films.
Released track Ghammaz
The song was born spontaneously from the day-to-day context on the road in Palestine, where Tareq came to the realization that he suffered from road rage. He tried substituting cursing and yelling with signing, which turned his anger and frustration with other drivers into laughter. The song is about drivers who never use their turn signals and incorporates in its soundscape elements that are familiar to all drivers.
