Nour Freitiekh

Bio

Nour has a keen interest in classical Western and Oriental music, with “Muwashshah” Arabic poetic form and religious hymns featuring prominently in her body of work.

Nour began singing at an early age and decided to focus on Arabic songs, which was not available as a field of study at university. She studied musicology and learned the clarinet and oud, developing her singing talent and skills through several student exchange programs and her performances at international music festivals, including Fête de l'Humanité in Paris, with the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music and Al-Kamandjati.

Her first single, titled “Malou” and released in 2015 with Jafra Productions, tells a love story in relation to the Palestinian Nakba. In 2021, she released “Jaffa: Everything Has Changed,” which featured in the Edward Said conservatory album Henna: Young Female Voices from Palestine, and which topped the Transglobal World Music Chart in August 2021. The following year, she performed in an operetta as part of the Fourth Arab Water Conference, hosted by Palestine.

Nour seeks to reimagine classical songs and present them in unique ways, incorporating contemporary styles in her musical performances, compositions or arrangements while trying to make the songs more musically accessible to listeners.

Released track Nour Samawi

This song is a recomposition of a religious hymn, sung by Nour in a manner that preserves its classical origin. She chose the hymn as she sought some light amid the pain and sorrow that envelopes Palestine and the region, looking for lyrics imbued with faith and hope like light at the ends of a dark tunnel.
